Custom Shortboards

Valley Isle Surfboards designs custom shortboards for small to moderate size surf. These come in two basic shapes, and the difference is in the nose template. The first is a regular shortboard with a more pulled or needle-nose. The second is the Koi or Fish Model with a wider nose, allowing for more area under your chest for paddle power.

Both custom shortboard designs have the following characteristics. A curvey outline fits on the face of the wave for maximum maneuverability. The bottom of the surfboard transition goes from a slight vee in the nose to flat under your front foot to a double-barrel under your back foot to a full kick behind the fins for quick release.

The vee in the nose is slight and has many functions. The most notable is how the vee breaks the water instead of pushing water like a flat bottom nose. This definitely aids quicker paddling to get into the wave and over the reef ledge or sandbar. The vee nose also breaks the water when landing airs, releasing the nose to help pull the tail around for radical straight up the face carves and "no catch" nose off the lip and easier turning capabilities in the barrel.

The double barrel tail under your back foot gives the lift and free rail to rail water release and maneuverability. Then, the last 12" has plenty of kick for the sensitivity of your foot on the gas pedal.

Big Boy Boards

Valley Isle Surfboards produces an excellent range of custom "Big Boy" Boards. These shapes are enlarged custom shortboards to accomodate a bigger person. They are usually in the 6'4" to 7'10" range for surfers who weigh 180 to 200 lbs. The Koi model would range from 6'4" to 6'11". We also add a little size from 6'11" to 7'11" to standard shortboard shapes for bigger surfers. From the Koi model to fun boards to fun guns, custom Big Boy Boards are available here.

Fun Boards

Valley Isle Surfboards builds a range of fun custom surfboards from 7'0" to 8'2". These custom surfboard designs are basically hybrids and mini-tankers, depending on the width of the nose. These custom surfboards are commonly styled for surfers who surf well, but they only want one surfboard in their quiver or surfers with less experience. These fun surfboard designs ride like a shortboard but have the paddle power of a longboard. This style of custom surfboard definitely fills the gap between a shortboard and a longboard with a standard shape to insure easy, comfortable surfing.

Big Wave Boards

Valley Isle Surfboards produces a wide range of Big Wave Surfboards. For the shredders, we build custom surfboards with medium thickness and stronger fiberglass ("S" cloth) in the 6'4" to 7'4" category. The next step up is for bigger guys in the 190 to 225 lb range who want more of a fun-gun shape with a wider tail. These custom surfboards are like enlarged kid shortboards glassed nice and light. Then, we go up to the final step of custom surfboards for places like Sunset, Waimea or extreme tow-in surf. These custom surfboards are pulled big wave guns glassed heavier for big wave strength and durability.

Custom Longboards

Starting Base Price $625

Valley Isle Surfboards specializes in progressive, high-performance, contemporary longboards. These custom longboards are quick, maneuverable and almost feel like shortboards. We've been trying to bridge the gap with shortboard ideas on longboard sizes since the longboard revolution of the 1990's. They ride unreal! Light-weight glass jobs with strong 4 oz "s" glass help add a "live" feeling under your feet for responsive, easy to handle, progressive surfing. We do not make old style longboards with ultra round rails and bottoms for that old "stone age" feeling. Leave it back in the 60's. Move to the next plateau of surfing through the release and free feeling of a high performance custom longboard. These custom longboard shapes can be ridden comfortably from the novice group all the way to the surfers in Pro status.
